Welcome to the top four, Tottenham

6 May

Thanks to an 82nd minute goal from Peter Crouch, Tottenham claimed a 1-0 win over Manchester City and clinched a spot in the top four.  It also means that Spurs will be playing Champions League football for the first time since 1962.  Spurs could even end up third if they win their final game and Arsenal slips up.

It’s the first time since the 2004-05 season that a team outside United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool has finished in the top four.  In the 2004-05 season, it was Everton at Liverpool’s expense and this season it’s Spurs, again at Liverpool’s expense.

Of course, the dramatic turnaround from the relegation zone to top four came with a price for Harry Redknapp, a steep price.
