Arsenal fights back for draw, Inter earns shutout

1 Apr

For the first 70 minutes, Barcelona looked like they would end up winning 10-0.  The defending champs had a comfortable 2-0 lead, thanks to a double from Zlatan Ibrahimovic.  However, Arsenal fought back and a Theo Walcott goal put them back in the mix.  After Barca defender Carlos Puyol was sent off for a challenge on Cesc Fabregas in the box, Fabregas buried the penalty to tie the game at 2-2.  Barca still has the advantage going into the second leg due to away goals, but the holders will be missing both center backs (Puyol and Pique) due to suspension.  Arsenal meanwhile will be without Fabregas, who will be suspended (even though he probably wouldn’t have played due to injury), as well as William Gallas and Andrei Arshavin, who both picked up injuries.  Gallas looks set to miss the remainder of the season and Fabregas could also be out for the rest of the year (UPDATE: Fabregas out for six weeks with cracked fibula).

Inter Milan picked up a 1-0 shutout win over CSKA Moskva in the first leg in Italy.  There weren’t too many opportunities for either side in the game, but Diego Milito took advantage of a little bit of space to score for Inter in the 65th minute.  It’s not much of a lead for Inter as they head to Russia for the second leg next week.  CSKA will be without Evgeny Aldonin as well as their leading Champions League scorer Miloš Krasić due to suspension.
