Aquilani out for Liverpool’s clash at Benfica

1 Apr

Midfielder Alberto Aquilani suffered an ankle injury at training earlier this week and will miss today’s first leg Europa quarterfinal at Benfica.   Lucas (ugh) is likely to start in his place, since Maxi Rodriguez is cup-tied.  Benfica has an injury of their own to deal with as striker Javier Saviola hurt his foot over the weekend.  If Liverpool can perform like they did against Sunderland over the weekend, they have a really good shot to win this game.  They need Steven Gerrard to be firing on all cylinders (and not commiting ridiculous fouls) as well as a strong, unified effort from the back four.  Benfica sits at the top of the Portuguese league and striker Oscar Cardozo is tied for the league lead in goals with 18.

Unfortunately, unless you have a really great cable package or DirecTV, you won’t get to see any of the games on TV in the U.S. Of course, there’s always your Yahoo! matchtracker or a google search for live coverage.
