Gerrard deserved punishment for elbow

16 Mar

Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard escaped FA punishment after elbowing Portsmouth’s Michael Brown in the head in Liverpool’s 4-1 win on Monday.  As much as I love me some Stevie G and Liverpool, he deserves to be punished for the totally unnecessary elbow (I’ll rant about the inconsistency of the FA at a later time).  It was a cheap shot that marred an otherwise excellent game for Liverpool. Check it out for yourself:

I should be shocked that this has gone unpunished and amazed that the media hasn’t made more of it, but I’m not.

Lesser crimes have caused greater outrage than this, and not for the first time Gerrard has got away with a cowardly assault.

It’s one of my pet peeves when excellent players resort to cheap tactics. (Other example: when Cristiano Ronaldo dives) It’s so unnecessary.

I also wish the FA would at least attempt to be consistent with their rulings.
