USA/Mexico rivalry resumes tonight

11 Feb

dempsey-vs-mexicoThe US plays host to Mexico in the first round of CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying tonight at 7 p.m. EST  in Columbus, Ohio at a sold-out Columbus Crew Stadium.  The game will be televised on ESPN2.  It is a huge game for both teams as they look to get the Hexagonal started off on the right foot.  The atmosphere and weather in Columbus should be advantageous for the USA.  For Mexico coach Sven-Goran Eriksson, it could be his last game in charge unless he gets a positive result on American soil.

On paper, the US should win this game.  They have been playing well and have been relatively consistant.  Mexico on the other hand, has only won once in their last six games.  Regardless of what the outcome SHOULD be, it will be a dog fight from beginning to end.  The rivalry between the two teams is incredibly fierce and the winner will take a huge boost into the next qualifier for South Africa 2010.
