Fernando Torres will not feature in Liverpool’s game at Blackburn this weekend due to an ongoing groin injury. It was rumoured that he would play this weekend, however I suppose we will have to wait a little bit longer for the services of the fantastic Mr. Torres.

There are some good games on tap this weekend. The biggest one is probably the Arsenal/Chelsea match Sunday afternoon. Both squads have been playing well and winning. Arsenal is eight points back from first place Chelsea, but is definitely capable of knocking off the leaders. On Saturday, fourth place Tottenham plays away to fifth place Aston Villa in a game that could have major top four implications. And of course, there’s the Merseyside derby between Liverpool and Everton, which is always a hard fought match.

After another international break, the Premier League is back in action this weekend. The injured stars of Liverpool will also be back on the pitch this weekend (thank goodness). The injured Reds were: Steven Gerrard, David Ngog, Daniel Agger, Glen Johnson, Fabio Aurelio, Albert Riera, Fernando Torres and Yossi Benayoun. Torres is the only one still out, so yay for that international break. Man City is one point up on Liverpool in the table, so it’s a must-win game for Liverpool if they want to work their way back into the top four. The Reds have only won one game since Sept. 26 so they need to start winning now to get things back on track.

Match of the week is easily Chelsea vs. Liverpool on Sunday. It’s a huge game, especially for Liverpool. There’s pretty much a razor thin margin of error for the Reds if they want to contend for the title. Last season, Liverpool shut out Chelsea twice (1-0 and 2-0). Both squads are coming off mid-week Champions League games, which Chelsea won and Liverpool lost. In Premier League play, Chelsea is coming off a shock 3-1 loss to Wigan. Prior to that, the Blues were undefeated in the league. Liverpool beat Hull, 6-1, on Saturday thanks to a Fernando Torres hat trick. The Reds will need a strong performance from their much-maligned defense if they want to beat Chelsea on Sunday.
